The NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled Programs

The NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD) Programs are multiple programs for people who need access to health care services in the community, or in long-term care facilities. Information on all the ABD Programs is provided in the NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled Programs Brochure.

NJ Medicaid & Managed Care


In 1995, New Jersey Medicaid began moving Medicaid beneficiaries from a traditional fee-for-service health insurance program, in which healthcare providers bill Medicaid directly, into managed care. Under managed care, clients enroll in a Health Plan which manages their healthcare and offers special services in addition to the benefits to which Medicaid clients are entitled.

Five Health Plans participate in New Jersey's NJ FamilyCare program. They are: Aetna | AMERIGROUP NJ | Horizon NJ Health | UnitedHealthcare Community Plan | WellCare

Disability Health and Wellness (DH & W) 
The New Jersey Disability Health & Wellness (DH&W) program serves to consult and collaborate on projects that seek to promote healthy living and prevention of secondary conditions for people with disabilities.  As such, the Division works to identify gaps in the State healthcare system; improve state surveillance activities; and facilitate partnerships between state agencies, community organizations, service providers and individuals with disabilities. The Division continuously seeks funding for initiatives that support this objective.

Prescription Drug Price Registry Home

The N.J. Prescription Drug Retail Price Registry will help consumers compare the retail prices charged by many pharmacies for the 150 most-frequently prescribed prescription drugs.

Hospital Care Payment Assistance Program
This program provides free or very low cost medical care for lower income patients who receive outpatient or inpatient services at an acute care hospital in NJ. 1-800-367-6543

Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program and Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD)
A program that provides insurance and drug coverage for prescribed legend drugs, such as insulin, life threatening  medications and insulin supplies. As noted on this there are many other prescription drug assistance programs in New Jersey. 1-800-792-9745

Low income and individuals without full dental insurance coverage can call upon this clinic. Some services are offered at a variable rate/sliding fee.

Charity Care - Hospital Care Payment Assistance Program
This an an assistance program that will help pay for doctor and hospital bills. The program provides free or low cost health care to lower income patients who are admitted to hospitals throughout New Jersey. To be eligible for aid, those in need of help can’t have insurance, or they need to have limited health insurance coverage.

Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund
This will provide eligible families with financial assistance. Funds and grants can help those low income families cover medical expenses that were incurred because their child became injured or catastrophically ill. Covered expenses provided for children ages 0 to 21 include, but are not limited to, acute or specialized in- or out - patient hospital care, special ambulatory care, medical equipment, home health care, medically - related home and vehicle modifications, and medical transportation. 1-800-335-3863. More.

New Jersey free food pantries and banks

Free or low cost food can be obtained from a variety of locations in New Jersey. families can turn to charities or the government, including free food banks and pantries. Many individuals and families are facing hardships, and need a little assistance to help them make it through a difficult period.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to helping those deal with cancer. The provide information on early detections, treatment, and support options for a varitey of forms of cancer.

Asthma and allergy foundation of america 
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) is national non profit organization that is dedicated to helping those effected by asthma and allergic conditions through research and education. 


Kids with food allergies 
With the number of children diagnosed with food allergies on the rise, it's important to provide proper education and Kids with food allergies (KFA) provides the necessary educational tools to help families keep their children healthy and safe including information on common food allergies, tips on how to cope, and allergy-safe recipes. 


Patient Advocate Foundation 
The Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) provides a variety of health resources for both the uninsured and underinsured. They also providea co-pay assistance programs to eligible insured patients. 


National Women's Health 
Women's Health is a great resource for that provides information on a varitety of illness affecting women at all stages from puberty all the way through menopause.
